Yesterday I was lucky enough to meet up with Mick Conroy and get an update on how things are going. Firstly, and this is hot off the press, wonderfully the legendary Vaughan Oliver will be doing the album cover artwork. Vaughan has done all the bands album artwork, bar one, and all the singles bar two and he is aiming to make this his best yet.
There will be ten tracks on the new album and an extra cover version track, though how this is to be released is yet to be decided. The current titles of the ten tracks are; I Feel Small Something's Going On Can You Hear The People Sing? It Don't Seem Right Sweet Revenge Trees Moonbeam Dark Cloud Come Out Of Your Hole Standing
And the cover version is of the Brian Eno track 'Here Come The Warm Jets'.
I was lucky enough to get to hear pre-mixed versions of the tracks and have to say the music is absolutely amazing and the best they have done since they left 4AD. They have mixed the styles from across their history with some tracks linked in style with their early post punk material, one of which is a rebuild which started with the guitar line from Coming For You from the bands unreleased 1979 demo's, some which are classic After The Snow anthems, then we have some melodic orchestral soundscapes and then finally some absolute, up to date rockin' stompers which are going to absolutely blow you away. The quality of the recordings are awesome with pounding bass, sweeping synths, rageing guitars, syncopated drums and Robbies signature vocals plus added orchestra and extra bangs, crashes and sound effects care of producer and mixer Martyn Young of Colourbox and MARRS fame (listen to his remix of Life In The Gladhouse and you'll get the idea).
