If you didn't know 'Modern English were formed in Colchester, England in 1979 by Robbie Grey (vocals), Gary McDowell (guitar, vocals), and Michael Conroy (bass, vocals), and were originally known as The Lepers. The group expanded to "Modern English" when Richard Brown (drums) and Stephen Walker (keyboards) were subsequently added to the line-up of the indie rock band . A debut single, "Drowning Man" was released in 1980 on the Limp Records label.' (excerpt from Wikipedia).
From this pre-4AD period there is the Drowning Man single (B-side Silent World which can be downloaded for free - see other thread) but also a series of demo's the band recorded, including the unreleased tracks 2001, Coming For You, Feel it, The Plunge and Sitting. What I would love to happen is have these early tracks released. Anybody interested?
We are DEFINATELY INTERESTED!!!! I would love to hear the mastered versions of demos of 2001, Coming For You, Feel it, The Plunge and Sitting, plus being peeled and the peel sessions...man o man, these would be wonderful to hear on re-mastered copies :-)
If anyone knows of any good record labels that reissues material and remasters archival material, please let us know...either the Forum Admin (Richard) or Webmaster (Kraig)...drop us a line and we will pass along to the band!
Ha! That's Great! Thanks ealdrett for the backup! Yes I did suggest www.secondmotionrecords.com and sent it along to the band. Your right that Stephen from Second Motion is a cool guy and easy to work with. I highly suggest that too! Stephen wants to work with the band and is also a fan himself. He worked with The Church (another fav band of mine) and i have to say that they've done a great job at doing so! Before Second Motion got involved, The Church only sold CD's off their website with high international rates to ship their albums overseas here in the US...but not anymore.
Also, Second Motion reissues and remasters music, etc. As Stephen explained to me...he would be happy to work with the band and also has learned about the major labels, etc...he also knows some people at 4AD, etc that he can work with, etc. So it doesn't sound like a bad idea or deal...i hope the guys consider them? I guess it all depends on where they'll make the most profit and exposure!? Can't blame em' can we? Let's hope they reissue and remaster some oldies and also hopefully at least some or ALL of the unissued tunes too!

Amazingly I've just found out from Mick that the band did a second batch of demos before they signed 4AD, which included Swans On Glass and Incident. I'm trying to find out the full track listing and if any of the band have a copy on tape.
Has anybody contacted 'Edsel'? They seem to specialise in deluxe editions hard to get material. They've recently done The Sound, Jesus and Mary Chain and Comsat Angels, so Modern English would fit the brief surely.
